About Kathy
My first career was in television sales and sales management, working in Chicago (where I grew up as a rabid Cubs fan), Minneapolis, New York City, Norfolk, Raleigh and Washington DC. Over those years, I had wonderful experiences and worked with lots of smart, fun, passionate people. When I felt I was “fully cooked” in broadcasting and ready for my next adventure, I hired a coach who helped me see that what I loved to do - and did well - was coaching others to reach their potential.
After 200 hours of coach-training and many hours of practice and skill development, I earned my PCC certification (Professional Certified Coach) with the ICF, the governing body for professional coaches. Now, 20 years later, I can honestly say that I love every day.
You see, starting my coaching business was not only a career change, but also a lifestyle change, with a move to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. I have taken the opportunity to truly engage with and support this wonderful community. I currently serve on the board of Saint Francis Service Dogs, and am the past chair of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. I have also served on the board of the United Way of Roanoke Valley and continue on their Community Impact Committee.
While I am an independent coaching practitioner, I am also an associate of The Pyramid Resource Group, one of the top corporate coaching companies in the United States. Through my association with Pyramid, I can support larger scale initiatives and provide coaches to organizations that would be best served by the services of more than one coach.
I am mom to Chowder, a sweet, affectionate two-year old yellow lab who seems to consider training classes merely a suggestion rather than a new behavior to aspire to! I am hoping that someday (after I get her to stop eating the couch cushions!) she and I can develop as a therapy dog team.
My Coaching Style
My coaching style is straight talk with lightness and humor. I try to create a safe space for my clients to explore possibilities, be vulnerable, and say what they need to say. I ask the not-so-obvious questions and often offer a different perspective on situations. I’m known for my ability to help clients find language for sensitive and/or emotional conversations. I work with each person to become more self-aware, and to help them become a more effective leader in a way that aligns with their values and strengths and style, and honors their uniqueness.
